Preparing for Your First Sacred Medicine Session

By Nydia GanjaClergy | UR Wellness LLC

Your first sacred medicine session is more than an event—it is a threshold. A conscious step into deeper healing, remembrance, and connection. Whether you are working with plants, fungi, or sacred animal allies, preparation is essential. It sets the tone for what the medicine can reveal and how deeply it can work through you.

At UR Wellness LLC, we guide each guest with reverence, compassion, and precision—because sacred medicine deserves nothing less.

Understanding Sacred Medicine

Sacred medicine encompasses more than just plants or psychedelics—it is the wisdom embedded in all six kingdoms of life: mineral, fungal, plant, animal, human, and spirit. These kingdoms represent the sacred architecture of reality, each offering specific teachings, frequencies, and healing codes.

At UR Wellness, we walk in deep respect with each of these realms, curating ceremonies and sessions that honor their essence.

Kingdoms of Healing
Kingdoms of Healing

Mineral Kingdom

Crystals, salts, clays, and metals support structural recalibration, grounding, and energetic protection.

In Ceremony: Crystal grids, grounding stones, earth-based limpias.

Sacred Lineage Reference: Taoist alchemical texts describe stone elixirs as foundational to energetic refinement.

Fungal Kingdom

Fungi are master teachers of the unseen—transmuting death into life. Psilocybin mushrooms offer ego dissolution and interdimensional awareness.

In Ceremony: Microdosing, grief ceremonies, spirit journeying.

Reference: María Sabina, the Mazatec curandera, referred to sacred mushrooms as “holy children.”

Plant Kingdom

Plants like cannabis, ayahuasca, and cacao are beloved for their therapeutic and spiritual properties. These are the wisdom keepers of growth and regeneration.

In Ceremony: Bhang, smudging, tinctures, tea.

Reference: Soma, a sacred elixir mentioned in the Vedas, was plant-based and used to commune with the divine.

Animal Kingdom

Animal allies such as the frog (Kambo), toad (Bufo), and sacred snakes offer potent, visceral transformation. These medicines work quickly, requiring presence and reverence.

In Ceremony: Kambo, venom microdosing, serpent breathwork.

Reference: The Matsés use Kambo to awaken hunter consciousness. Ancient Egypt revered snake venom for both healing and spiritual power.

Human Kingdom

You—the receiver—and the guide are sacred vessels. Human intention, voice, and presence are crucial.

In Ceremony: Breathwork, body movement, sound, tears.

Reference: African and Andean traditions emphasize that the healer is a channel—not the source—of the medicine.

Spirit Realm

Spirit guides, ancestors, elemental beings, orishas, and unseen forces are active participants. In Ceremony: Prayer, altar building, divination, sound healing.

Reference: Yoruba Ifá tradition and Taoist cosmology teach that nothing in the material realm manifests without spiritual causality.

Physical Preparation

Your body is the altar. When you care for it ahead of time, the medicine can work more efficiently and kindly.

  • Nutrition: Eat light, mostly plant-based, unprocessed foods in the days prior. Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and dense meats.

  • Hydration: Drink mineralized water and herbal teas.

  • Sleep: Get restful sleep leading up to the session.

  • Supplements/Medications: Share all supplements and prescriptions during your intake call to check for contraindications.

  • Energetic Cleansing: Consider a detox bath, spiritual limpia, or time in nature.

Mental & Emotional Preparation

Preparation & Integration

The mind is both ally and barrier. Preparing it helps reduce resistance during the session.

  • Set Intentions: Get clear about what you’re releasing and receiving.

  • Journaling: Begin writing daily 3–5 days before. Ask: What am I truly ready to shift?

  • Process Fears: Speak them aloud or with your guide.

  • Silence + Mindfulness: Take media fasts, practice breath awareness, and engage in presence practices.

Spiritual Preparation

The more spiritually attuned you are, the more gracefully you’ll walk through the session.

  • Connect to Your Source: Prayer, meditation, ancestor offerings, or nature connection

  • Honor the Medicine: Speak to the spirit of the medicine. Offer gratitude.

  • Create Sacred Space: Light a candle, set an altar, or dedicate a part of your home to reflection.

  • Ask for Protection + Guidance: Call in your spirit team or lineage.

Practical Preparation

Physical details matter. They create the external safety needed to explore the internal depths.

  • What to Bring: Water bottle, journal, sacred object, blanket, eye mask, comfortable clothes

  • Clothing: Loose, breathable fabrics. No perfume or strong scents.

  • Transportation: Arrange a ride if necessary—driving after a deep journey is not recommended.

  • Aftercare Plan: Light meal prepped, no social media or phone calls. Rest is essential.

  • Integration Tools: Crystals, herbs, art supplies, or any items that help you reflect and integrate.
